Recently, Secretary Clinton announced the Blueprint for an AIDS-Free Generation, an ambitious road map to decrease new infections, reduce deaths from HIV, and to end transmission of HIV from mother to child once and for all. On March 1, 2013, a large portion of the Federal Budget faced across-the-board cuts negatively affecting many federal programs—including a $280 million reduction in global HIV/AIDS funding. Congress must take action. U.S.-funded HIV/AIDS programs have enrolled more than 4.5 million people on lifesaving antiretroviral therapy in low- and middle-income countries, and investments in important prevention programs have helped to avert millions of new HIV infections around the world. Cuts to this funding will set us back dramatically. We are at a crucial moment in the effort to create an AIDS-free generation, and we need to keep the momentum going!
Please tell your Senators and Representatives to keep Congress committed to this fight and urge them to rescind sequestration, and protect funding for Global HIV/AIDS.
